Bao Shan Geomancy – Sifu Lim Cheng Lee – The Master of Destinies
Off the busy main thoroughfare of Jalan Sultan, sits an impressive shop front that houses Bao Shan Geomancy. Started in 2005 by Sifu Lim Cheng Lee, it is now an organization that comprises near 30 disciples and assistants.
Those who are familiar with Fortune Telling and Feng Shui consultations would not be unfamiliar with the name of Sifu Lim Cheng Lee. He is the Feng Shui consultant for UOB Bank Singapore and Singapore Changi Airport group.
In his own words, Sifu Lim joined the industry as it was his destiny to do so, he believes that every person has a destiny and every event has a time and place. It was his destiny to become a Fortune Teller and Feng Shui consultant as a service to the community. He decided to follow the path that set him off on years of learning to become the best that he can be to provide the best advice and consultation for the multitudes of people who come seeking his help.
As he believed that it was his destiny to be in the industry that he is in, he does not view the obstacles in the way as challenges, rather just minor road bumps to his goal. It is also this positive attitude that shaped his view that his journey so far has been a smooth sailing one.
Being a person that is highly attuned to nature and the nature order of things, Sifu Lim does not seek inspiration from external sources. He is highly self-motivated and has a great sense of self belief, a trait that has served him well over the years.
It is no surprise that he has helped many people change their lives for the better over the years. The underlying principle for Sifu Lim is to help as many people as possible make their lives better and smoother sailing in the choppy ups and downs by offering advice on the various aspect of their lives. One can draw a similarity between what Sifu Lim does and what the west calls ‘life coaches’ in that his advice would usually touch on the changing of mindsets and attitudes towards situations and events.
When asked about how he would define success, Sifu Lim replied as someone who has an innate understanding of the nature order of things. ‘There is no success.’ Says the master, ‘No matter how much money you make, there is more money out there, no matter how long one lives, everyone dies at the end. There is no success, only constant improvements.’
And to that end, sacrifices have to be made in terms of time and resources. Sifu Lim has spent huge amounts of time perfecting his craft and also massive amounts of money to attend courses and seminars around the world. These are necessary to keep on top of the game. In the years he spent in the industry, he has grown considerably from a relative unknown to one of the most prominent practitioners of his craft in the region. He has delivered seminars in Malaysia and China to big audiences and has received countless awards recognizing his contributions to the Geomancy world.
If there was a definition of success for those of us who think in more mundane terms, he offers that for a man, he can be considered successful if he married a good wife and raise a happy family. He believes that for any man to be successful, he needs to have a good woman supporting him in the background and half the success is finding that woman.
As someone who offers advice to people for a living, Sifu Lim has a few gems to share with young people with aspirations for entrepreneurship.
First and foremost, know your destiny. Have a good understanding of yourself, know your own strengths and weaknesses and have the patience to wait for the right opportunity to come along when you are prepared. While he advocates not forcing issues or situations to change, he also says that it is important not to shrink away when an opportunity comes.
While it is important to build up your competency while waiting for your chance to shine, it is equally important to have an ‘attitude of success’ leading up to it. Mindset and destiny determines the route you will take in life. If you have a mindset of scarcity, you will never have abundance, so it is important to constantly check your thoughts and actions.
Having been in the business for a decade, Sifu Lim has faced his share of competitors and challengers. The way he deals with that is simply to compete through competency. He believes that if you are genuinely good at what you do, you will shine no matter what you do. People will seek you out based on the quality of your work.
On top of that, Branding and Networking are also important aspects running a business. He builds the Bao Shan Geomancy Brand through the consistent high quality work and advice he offers to clients and they in turn are confident in his services’ value. Over time, Bao Shan Geomancy has gained such a good reputation of high quality Feng Shui Geomancy work that even major banks and the Singapore Changi Airport Group has engaged his services to improve their cosmic alignment.
Sifu Lim is also an active networker, travelling across the region to attend or deliver seminars and getting to know other practitioners. He believes that business is about people, and building bonds and friendships is a good way to improve business. While he recognize that branding is vital in gaining awareness for his services, he also emphasize that ultimately it is about competency. One has to be extremely competent in his craft and have a strong foundation to build upon, without which no amount of branding can help you. In fact, without competency and strength, branding and marketing might actually cause more harm than good in the long run as news of incompetency usually spreads faster that good news.
In a nutshell, Sifu Lim is a firm believer of destiny. Coupled with the right mindset, competency and strength in whatever you do; and not forgetting a good wife and support, any man can have a relatively successful and smooth sailing life.
