Dai Tian ge – Mr Simon Chua, Master of the Unseen
Fu Lu Shou Complex in Singapore is a well-known hub for all things related to Feng Shui, Geomancy and Fortune telling. Among all the Masters and Sifus in the building, there is one that stands out.
Tucked in a corner of the third floor of the building, lies a shop with no doors. It is the headquarters of Dai Tian Ge, a seemingly ordinary Geomancer outlet. But, if you take a closer look, you will realize that the merchandise on offer are not your usual run of the mill products. The charms and statues on offer here are obviously of good quality and made from high end materials like jade and other minerals.
Headed by Master Simon Chua, a practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in the field, they specialize in major destiny changing rituals and exorcisms on top of the usual Feng Shui services and Fortune Telling services.
While knowledge of the occult and metaphysical is mysterious to most of us layman, it is a family tradition for Master Chua. The Chua family has been the holders and transmitters of esoteric knowledge for generations.
Master Simon Chua himself started his education in the family traditions at the age of 14, but he was never really interested in carrying on the tradition. He had other ideas and wanted to explore other options. But, try as he might, he was never able to succeed at the many businesses he dabbled in. It seems like an invisible hand was always leading him back to his family to receive and carry on the traditions, so finally at the age of 21, he returned and opened up Dai Tian Ge in 1994. They were originally located at Lorong 3 Geylang and after two decades of hard work and a few moves, they are now situated on the third floor of Fu Lu Shou Complex with branches in Malaysia and China.
Master Chua feels that the biggest challenge in his line of work is the heavy responsibility he feels on his shoulders. He feels personally responsible for the long-term success of the customers that come seeking his help in changing their luck and destiny. Manpower is also a perennial problem, it is no secret that hiring the right people with an aptitude and talent for the industry is extremely difficult especially in this day and age. With the advent of science and technology, it is extremely hard to attract young people into the line.
Master Chua is the foremost expert in the ancient ritual of ‘Zhong Sheng Ji’ which is purported to be extremely effective in changing a person’s major destiny a luck. Another service that most other Geomancers do not perform is the ritual of exorcism and the removing of curses and black magic as they are basically different schools of knowledge.
While Geomancers and Fortune-Tellers only need to have an understanding of numerology and other more academic knowledge. Practitioners of exorcism and magic needs to have a good knowledge of the occult and spiritual training. It is rare for someone to have a good grasp of both, Master Chua happens to be just one of them.
On the business front, a new outlet is opening within the month in Malaysia in addition to the sole branch operating there now, bringing the total international holdings of the company to one outlet in Singapore, two in Malaysia and a branch and Hotel in China. Plans are also in the works to IPO the company within three years.
Master Chua is also actively grooming disciples and leaders to carry on and pass down his knowledge and intends to open up outlets for them to helm once they are ready. At the moment, he has a few candidates in mind and it won’t be long before we can expect to see even more branches being set up and run by his capable assistants.
Sacrifice and Motivation
The biggest sacrifice Master Chua has had to make in providing his services is the huge drain on his spiritual energy. He has even sustained injuries to his leg in the course of duty and until today, his right leg aches intermittently throughout the day.
The long hours also take its toll on Master Chua’s health. His daily routine involves waking up at 5.30am for prayers and spiritual training before meeting clients and opening up the shop for walk-in customers or appointments, and in the evenings, he provides outcall services to conduct rituals for the dead or perform exorcisms. A typical day lasts anywhere from 14 to 18 hours and he hardly gets enough sleep, much less them for himself and his family.
But, Master Chua views this as his duty and he is answerable not only to himself, but to a higher power. This sense of duty and responsibility drives him to always provide the best he can for his clients and believers.
There are a few principles Master Chua lives by when it comes to his business. He is always open and honest about his abilities and what he can and cannot do. He is also a man who takes his words very seriously, he will always follow through on his promises to his clients even if it’s detrimental to himself personally.
Another thing he takes very seriously is the confidentiality of his clients. Most of his clients come to him with very personal problems and he makes it a strict company policy of not discussing those problems with anyone, any staff caught gossiping about a client’s problems with anyone faces the immediate sack. He feels that being a professional, the Master-Client-privilege is as sacrosanct as the ones enjoyed by clients of Lawyers and Doctors. This is something he takes a very serious view of and will not breech under any circumstance.
When it comes to success, Master Chua feels that he is already successful. He runs a thriving business, has a loyal team of workers and disciples to make sure the operations of the business runs smoothly and his knowledge is passed on, he does not owe anyone anything and is fully self-sustainable with only the higher powers to answer to.
There are no major worries in his life and he has the freedom of lifestyle even though he does not have much personal time. He is contented with what he has and can take a broad view of life itself.
While he used to enjoy having the ability to solve people’s problems, he now takes a more neutral view of everything. He views it as his duty on Earth and does not expect any rewards or returns. One can say that Master Chua has moved into a higher Zen state of existence now.
With more than two decades of experience under his belt, there are definitely some gems of wisdom he can share with young aspiring entrepreneurs out there.
‘If you have the opportunity and ability, by all means, go start something! Be an entrepreneur! What’s the worst that can happen? Don’t be afraid to fail, if you fail, you just try again. Just don’t start a business in debt, do not borrow and take out loans to start your entrepreneurial journey.
Rely on yourself and your own resources and belief in your own abilities. In fact, I encourage entrepreneurship among my disciples. If they have the ability and are keen, I would gladly set up shop and let them run the business on their own as a form of learning for them.
Last but not least, don’t ever stop learning. In this day and age, you have to keep learning and upgrading yourself, or you will risk becoming irrelevant very fast.’
